Braywick, Maidenhead is Branching Out Into The Understanding Of Oaks
What lives in, on and under an oak tree? Royal Borough tree warden Martin Woolner will reveal all about the quintessentially English species when he hosts an ‘oak tree safari’ at Braywick Nature Centre in Hibbert Road, Maidenhead on Thursday April 26 from 7.15 – 9pm.
The illustrated Maidenhead talk will allow the audience to see close-up the wide range and richness of wildlife that exists on, in and under the oak.
Martin said: “The oak supports more wildlife than any other type of tree in Britain; much of it is common but goes unseen and some is exceedingly rare and yet found locally.”
The audience will see such sights as fungi which glow in the dark, the British moth with the longest feelers, weevils with the longest snouts, false scorpions, slugworms, common footmen, hedgehog gallwasps, leaf rollers, leaf miners, beefsteak fungus, weeping brackets and dead-man's fingers.
The cost is £3.60 per adult with an Advantage Card. Non-Advantage Card holders are charged a daily entry fee of 80p per adult. Refreshments are included.
Places must be booked in advance; for more information and to book call 01628 796227.
