Borough Maidenhead Schools Discover Recipe for Success

Maidenhead Royal Borough schools are showing a healthy attitude to nutritional, physical, social and emotional wellbeing – an impressive 14 schools have recently attained National Healthy School status, bringing the total to almost half of borough schools.

The award focuses on four themes: personal, social and health education, healthy eating, physical activity, and emotional health and wellbeing. Of the 60 eligible schools and pupil referral units under the Maidenhead borough’s wing, 29 now have Healthy School status.

To celebrate and recognise the latest successes, a special event will be held at WAMDSAD, off Braywick Road, Maidenhead, on Friday April 27 from 2 – 3.30pm. The schools will give presentations on their achievements using a laptop, Healthy Schools folder or display, followed by the presentation of certificates.

The 14 schools that have recently attained Healthy School status and will receive certificates are:

· Maidenhead: All Saints CE Junior, Holyport Manor, Newlands Girls', Oldfield Primary, St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary, St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Waltham St Lawrence Primary

· Windsor: Alexander First, Dedworth Green First, Oakfield First, St Edward's Royal Free Ecumenical Middle and Windsor Girls'

· Ascot: Cheapside CE Primary

· Wraysbury: Wraysbury Primary.

Cliff Turner, head of Maidenhead children and young people, said: “Our schools are doing an excellent job of encouraging young people’s participation and involvement in activities which promote healthy lifestyles. I hope these successes will be an inspiration to others to achieve this status.”

Cyndy Gray, adviser for Maidenhead healthy schools, said: “It is a joy to talk to school council members because they are so enthusiastic and committed to making their schools a healthy and safe place to work and play. They get involved in developing anti-bullying policies, designing play areas and vegetable gardens to name but a few.

“School meals are so much more healthy than they used to be and parents are doing their best to provide healthy lunch boxes.

“Children genuinely enjoy the vast range of sports and activities which schools provide and recognise the importance of regular exercise.”

The schools already in possession of Healthy School status are: Alwyn Infant, Boyne Hill CE Infant, Burchetts Green CE First, Courthouse Junior, Datchet St Mary’s CE, Furze Platt Infant, Furze Platt Junior, Hilltop First, Homer First, Knowl Hill CE Primary, Lowbrook, Royal (Crown Aided) School, St Edward’s Catholic First, St Francis Catholic Primary and White Waltham Primary.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
