Children Set to Learn their Maidenhead Peas and Cucumbers
Pupils in Maidenhead's Ellington Primary School will be vegging out on Thursday (June 15) – but there won't be a couch potato in sight when Maidenhead Royal Borough trading standards officers challenge the children to a healthy eating Jamie Oliver-style quiz.
Part of Food Awareness Week (June 12 – 18), the trading standards team will join the national campaign to highlight the importance of food safety and hygiene.
Working through years 1 to 6, they will use the quiz to promote awareness about the different types of fruit and vegetables, with pupils split into teams and prizes for those who get the most correct answers. There will also be the opportunity for trading standards to talk to the children about food labelling, particularly the importance of date marking and cooking instructions.
Kelly Moss, Maidenhead trading standards officer, explained: "We want to create a fun learning experience for the children and hopefully raise awareness, not only about the huge variety of fruit and veg available in shops and supermarkets but also about food labelling and the important information it provides for our health and well-being."
