Flying the Windsor and Maidenhead flag for the armed forces

The Royal Windsor and Maidenhead Borough is to join councils from around the country to "fly the flag" to mark British Armed Forces Day.

On Monday (June 21) the special Armed Forces Day flag will be raised above the Town Hall in St Ives Road, Maidenhead, at 10.30am, to herald the start of Armed Forces Week.

Representatives from a number of service organisations will join the Windsor and Maidenhead Mayor, Cllr Catherine Bursnall, at the ceremony and afterwards for refreshments in the Mayor’s parlour.

Windsor and Maidenhead Cllr Bursnall said this week: "This is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our support for the members of the armed forces, past and present, in a very public way, as a small gesture of our appreciation for their commitment and dedication to serving their country.

"I do hope as many people as possible will join with us to show our respect in this time-honoured way."

The special flag will fly above the Town Hall until after Armed Forces Day (Saturday June 26) and follows the success of previous Veterans Day celebrations.

The day provides an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to service families, and from veterans to recruits.

Ex-service organisations are welcome to bring their standards to the flag-raising ceremony.

Last year my wife pointed out to senior staff at York House that the Armed Forces Day Flag should have been flown in Windsor because it is the GARRISON TOWN, they gave a lame excuse then and they probably will now. Why oh why do they not listen, as per usual they are only paying lip service and don’t give a hoot about the people that matter.
By the way RBWM – armed forces day is Saturday 26 June not the 27.
